Authentic Mexican Guacamole made with only the freshest ingredients
Oh, I am picky about my guacamole. How many times have you eaten bland guacamole where the flavor is nowhere to be found? I can tell you…it has happened to me more times than I can count. Guacamole should focus on the star ingredient — the AVOCADO — by bringing out its natural flavors.
Since I live in Arizona, we are HUGE Mexican food fans and a perfect guacamole recipe is essential to a Mexican feast. When most of my brothers and their families lived in Arizona, we got together most Sunday nights for dinner. The menu of choice was almost always Mexican. Of course, guacamole and chips were essential to an authentic Mexican dinner and this recipe was always a hit!
How to make Guacamole?
There are many ways to make guacamole but I focused on creating a killer simple guacamole recipe, with only the freshest of ingredients. My signature guacamole includes avocados, finely diced white onions, cilantro, lime juice, garlic powder, salt, and a touch of jalapeno. 7-ingredient guacamole is all you need. Throw in some diced tomatoes if you want to walk on the wild side.
Lime juice and cilantro are the game changers as they add freshness and lighten up the creamy avocados. The onions need to be finely diced so they don’t overpower the guacamole. Another important tip is to season it well with a good amount of salt. So many times guacamole just needs a touch of salt to put it over the top.
How to keep guacamole from turning brown?
The key to keeping the avocados from turning brown is to stop the oxidation process. By adding an acid such as lime or lemon juice, it will keep the avocados from turning brown. Adding lime juice also adds a fresh citrus flavor which is essential to authentic guacamole.
This is the BEST Guacamole EVER.
Guacamole can be served with tortilla chips as an appetizer or side dish, on top of a burrito bowl, in a burrito, or on top of carne asada tacos. You can even lick the bowl. I have been known to polish off this guacamole all by myself. It’s that good. That’s our little secret. I hope you love this homemade guacamole recipe too!

Pin ItLightly mash avocados with a fork, leaving chunks, if so desired.
Add diced onions, cilantro, jalapeno. Drizzle with fresh lime juice. Sprinkle on salt and garlic powder. Stir.
Taste and add more salt as needed. I tend to like my guacamole with some flavor so I add a little extra salt.
